Pharmaceutical water systems · PQ · Continued verification
Prove the system. Understand its behavior.
PlumGxP connects onsite sampling, laboratory testing, microbial identification, and trend-ready reporting to help demonstrate that your generation, storage, and distribution system consistently delivers water of the required quality.
More than passing samples
A water system is a living process.
A single compliant result does not demonstrate control. A defensible program considers the complete system, how water is actually used, representative sampling, sanitization and operating states, seasonal influence, microbial identity, and change over time.
PlumGxP supports new-system performance qualification, post-change or periodic requalification, routine monitoring, and targeted investigations. Programs are designed around your water type, system design, intended use, risk assessment, and approved procedures—not a generic calendar alone.
Sample locations and techniques reflect the system and the way water is drawn for production.
Frequency and testing are connected to use, system design, operating history, and product risk.
Results are structured to help detect drift, recurring locations, seasonal effects, and changing flora.
Interactive system lens
Follow the water through the complete system.
Select each component to see its role in qualification and continued monitoring. The make-up train feeds the storage tank; the distribution loop then carries water to points of use and returns it to storage for continuous recirculation.
Source → pretreatment → core purification → storage → distribution → return
Make-up treatment trainRecirculating distribution loopConceptual flow: actual purification technologies, storage configuration, use points, sampling ports, and return arrangement must be confirmed against the approved P&ID and field conditions.
Qualification continuum
From readiness to maintained control.
Sampling frequency, duration, acceptance criteria, alert/action levels, and phase progression must be scientifically justified and approved for the specific system. Historical regulatory models may inform—but do not automatically define—every modern qualification plan.
Integrated laboratory capabilities
See chemical and microbial control together.
The appropriate panel depends on the compendial water type, intended use, system stage, and investigation question. PlumGxP can coordinate testing into a unified program.
Total Organic Carbon
Compendial testing and trend support for organic contamination or residue signals.
USP <643>Water Conductivity
Evaluation of ionic quality using the applicable compendial procedure.
USP <645>Microbial Enumeration
Culture-based enumeration with methods, volumes, media, and conditions appropriate to the program.
Recovery + trendingBacterial Endotoxins
Endotoxin testing when required by the water type, intended use, or investigation.
USP <85>Microbial Identification
Identification helps distinguish isolated events from recurring or system-associated organisms.
MALDI-TOF + genetic optionsSupporting Chemistry
pH, nitrates, appearance, and other testing when applicable to specifications or study design.
Program-specificTrend Assessment
Organize results by location, time, organism, operating state, and relevant system event.

Focused resampling, organism comparison, source hypotheses, and post-corrective-action verification.
Beyond the numberRoutine pharmaceutical water testing
Qualification proves the starting point. Routine testing protects it.
After performance qualification, PlumGxP can remain your water-testing partner through scheduled sampling, laboratory analysis, microbial identification, trend support, and investigation testing.
The program can cover Purified Water, Water for Injection, feed water, process water, and other specified water types using the locations, frequencies, tests, and limits established in your approved monitoring plan.
A predictable program begins before the sample is collected.
PlumGxP can coordinate a recurring schedule, confirm the requested panel and locations, prepare supplies, and align responsibilities so routine sampling does not become a monthly scramble.
Weekly, monthly, quarterly, rotational, or risk-based frequencies from the approved plan.
Local coordination can reduce handoffs and support time-sensitive water samples.
Results remain traceable to the sample location, collection details, method, and specification.
Add identification, targeted resampling, or investigation work when results or patterns warrant it.
Trend before the excursion
The pattern may matter before a limit is crossed.
Location-specific drift, repeat organism recovery, changes following sanitization, and seasonal patterns can provide earlier evidence than a single pass/fail view. PlumGxP’s goal is to make the data useful to your quality unit—not simply return isolated numbers.

What does your system need next?
Choose what applies. We will use your selections as a starting point—not as a predefined protocol.
Regulatory perspective
Control is demonstrated across the system and over time.
FDA’s inspection guide emphasizes an accurate system description and drawing, representative sampling throughout the system, procedures supported by data, consistency over time, consideration of seasonal variation, and a final report with conclusions and approvals. USP <1231> provides current scientific guidance for pharmaceutical water systems, sampling, monitoring, and control.
PlumGxP uses these principles to help shape a site-specific program. Regulatory references inform the approach; they do not replace your approved specifications, procedures, risk assessment, or quality-unit decisions.
Common planning questions
Before sampling begins.
Does every water system use the same qualification schedule?
No. Historical phased models are useful references, but the sampling plan and duration should be justified for the water type, system design, intended use, operating procedures, risk, and applicable requirements.
Can PlumGxP collect samples onsite?
Yes. PlumGxP can provide onsite sampling, or support client collection with appropriate containers, materials, instructions, labeling, transport, and laboratory coordination.
Which locations should be sampled?
The plan may include source or feed water, pretreatment and generation stages, storage, loop return, representative points of use, and locations selected because of design or operational risk. The actual P&ID and use pattern should drive the final plan.
Why identify water-system isolates?
Counts describe quantity; identification adds context. Repeat recovery of the same organism, organisms associated with water systems, or location-specific flora may support a more focused trend assessment or investigation.
Can qualification transition into routine monitoring?
Yes. The qualification program should generate information that supports scientifically justified routine locations, frequencies, tests, operating procedures, alert/action levels, trending, and response plans.
Build a water program that keeps explaining the system.
Whether you are starting a new loop, responding to a change, investigating a trend, or strengthening routine monitoring, PlumGxP can help shape the next defensible step.
